The hardest part is when something good happens. I still reach for my phone before I think, because you’re the person I want to tell. Then I remember I can’t call you anymore. Everyone else says they’re happy for me, and I’m grateful—but the person I most wanted to hear it from isn’t here.
I used to tell you I was your number one fan and supporter. I still am. I know you’ll do great things in life; whatever you choose, I know you’ll champion it one day. I may not see every achievement, but I know you’re out there killing it.
I’ve tried to move forward, and some days are harder than others. I still catch myself looking for the good I knew in you. From where I stand, you are the very definition of love, respect, and care. I wish I had fought a little harder when it mattered.
I know you may not feel the same way, and I understand that. I hope that one day you can be proud of the person I’ve become. I have a long way to go, but the best of what you inspired in me is still here.
If our paths ever cross again, I don’t know whether we’ll recognise each other. I hope, somehow, our souls do.
I couldn’t bring myself to delete all the photos. They help me remember the moments when I was happy. I still rewatch the film you saw me watching on TV. It’s a good one. And then there was our first movie in the hall together. I don’t think either of us would call it a classic, but going with you is what I remember.
This is simply a thank-you for what we had, and a wish for all the good still ahead of you. Nothing is expected in return.
